2 Days Oldonyo Lengai Mountain and Lake Natron

Pronounced  Ol doyn-yo-len-guy meaning Mountain of God in the Masai language. 
It is hard to leave Tanzania without a song in your heart and a head full of memories. Lengai is the case in point. but most engagingly and contrastingly .because  great journeys often involve great contrasts

Lengai is frequently listed as a top challenging hike for adventurous travelers seeking to experience an active volcano. It is an Active Stratovolcano. Eruptions have been recorded in 1917,1921,1940,1966, with recent activity reported in 2024.

Notably, historical figures who reached the summit include Scientific F.Jaeger in 1904, making one of the earliest documented ascents.

And then there’s the lake natron  which really can’t be contrasted with any other place, because there really isn’t any other place remotely like it, at least on our home planet.)Lake Natron in Tanzania is the primary breeding site for 2.5 million Lesser Flamingos, representing 75% of the world's population. The lake's hostile, highly alkaline pH levels (up to 10.5.  and hot conditions (/140°F)  which serves as a natural deterrent to predators, protecting nesting flamingo colonies.can kill animals and mummify them, making them appear like "statuesque ghouls. Flamingos nest on mudflats, thriving on algae that bloom in the shallow, caustic water.

It is a place where intense, toxic beauty meets fragile life, often described as a " nursing and graveyard deep" of soda and salt.
